Why I joined BANPAS and why it should matter to you

I wanted to take this opportunity to let my clients know that I am a member of BANPAS!

As a newborn and baby photographer, I take the safety of my little clients

very seriously. They are incredibly precious and should be treated as such. As a new parent you will undoubtedly be cautious about who enters your home and who you allow near you family, therefore I am always very grateful to share such a special time with parents. When inviting a photographer in to complete a newborn session, you are inviting them into your little bubble of safety. As sessions take place typically 4-10 days after birth, this is a very intimate and personal time. You will want to make sure the photographer you are inviting in is trained in newborn safely, as well as insured.

It might surprise some of you to know that the newborn photography industry is completely

unregulated. This means that anyone can call themselves a photographer and come to photograph your child. Without any training at all which is unsafe. Photographers like me, who take safety seriously, have to take it upon ourselves to be trained and educated on how to ensure the beautiful images we create, are done so safely. It is up to us to invest in our business, and in turn our clients safety. Insurance is also a must.

For example when you see a beautiful image like this you may be forgiven for thinking that the baby here was unsupported and holding his head himself, but actually I created this image using 2-3

different images and a spotter. These are then merged together.

Here are some of the ‘before’ images used to create the final portrait.

Being a newborn and baby photographer requires a unique set of skills which go beyond using a camera and there is a worldwide organisation that exists to support photographers like me, who want to have access to safety training and resources that we can use to provide clients like you with a better service.

I’m delighted to have joined BANPAS (Baby &Newborn Photography Association) and you

will be able to find me on their directory of photographers here. BANPAS also check the insurance credentials on your behalf and award stamps to those who are insured. They also have a fabulous facebook page for pregnant and new parents here.

I’d be delighted to chat to you about how I can create a beautiful gallery of images

of your newborn and very happy to chat to you about how I do that safely. Please

contact me for booking and availability information.
